Concept artwork from Final Fantasy VIII.
The Buer (ブエル, Bueru?), also known as the Buel, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy VIII. While its appearance has varied, it is generally a winged demon, oftentimes being a variant of the ahriman.
Appearances
Final Fantasy VIII
The Buel appears as an enemy encountered in the Fire Cavern, Tomb of the Unknown King, Balamb Garden, Centra Ruins, Deep Sea Research Center, and Ultimecia Castle . It can attack with powerful elemental magic, and at higher levels has access to Reflect and Death, but is otherwise an exceptionally fragile foe that can often be defeated with a single physical attack.
Final Fantasy X
The Buer appears as an enemy encountered in the Thunder Plains. It attacks using only its Gaze ability, which can inflict Confusion at a very low rate, but otherwise is not a difficult foe to defeat.
Final Fantasy XII
The Buer appears as an enemy encountered in the Zertinan Caverns. It is a troublesome foe as it has access to Haste and Leech, in addition to Blizzara and Shock Wave.
Final Fantasy XIV
Buer appeared as a boss encountered during the Emergency Mission in
The Missing Gem in the patch 3.55b versions of the Diadem, the Trials of the Fury and Matron. It was removed along with the rest of the Diadem in patch 5.1 for the zone's 5.2 redesign, and has not reappeared since.
Final Fantasy Type-0

The Buer appears as an enemy encountered in the forests of the Eibon Region.

World of Final Fantasy
The Buer appears as a Mirage encountered as a boss alongside the Kraken in the Crystal Tower. It and the Kraken can be fought in a rematch in the Coliseum, while it also appears as a regular enemy in the EX Dungeon B, EX Dungeon C, and EX Dungeon Z. It can be imprismed in the Coliseum and EX Dungeons using a Blood Eye Prism after inflicting it with Confusion, while defeating it in the Crystal Tower rewards the Buer Memento, allowing it to be transifigured with the Blood Eye or Ahriman.
Etymology
In the 16th-century grimoire known as Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Buer is described as the president of Hell, with fifty legions of demons at his disposal.
