Final Fantasy II
The Captain appears as an enemy encountered in Fynn, the Dreadnought, Castle Fynn, the Cyclone, and Castle Palamecia. It can also be encountered in the Altair, Fynn, and Poft regions after the Cyclone appears and in the Arcane Labyrinth in the 20th Anniversary release. It is a powerful foe for when first encountered, having high stats across the board, but if defeated, can drop valuable loot such as the Flame Bow, Golden Armor, Toad Tome, and Curse Tome.
Final Fantasy III
The Captain is a dummied enemy in the original release, being a stronger goblin-type enemy. Its attributes are similar to those of enemies encountered in the Dragon Spire. Two sprites are attributed to the Captain.
Final Fantasy IV
The Captain, also known as the General, appears as an enemy encountered during the First Battle of Fabul, alongside Baron Soldiers. If it is not defeated before the soldiers, it will flee from the battle, so defeating the Captain first is advised to maximize the party's experience points. The Captain does not attack at all.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
The Captain returns as an enemy once more encountered during the Second Battle of Fabul during Yang's chapter. Its behavior is the same as in Final Fantasy IV.
Final Fantasy VI
The Captain, also known as the Leader, appears as an enemy encountered during the Siege of Doma. It leads the ground assault during Cyan's introductory scenario and is fought by Cyan alone. As Cyan is the Captain's only possible target, it can easily be defeated using Cyan's Sky counterattack.
Final Fantasy VII
The Captain appears as an enemy encountered in the Underwater Reactor during Clash in the Deep Sea.

The DG Commander appears as an enemy encountered during chapters 1, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-
The Captain appears as an enemy encountered in Nibelheim and the mission "Shinra's Advanced Training." A Captain is also encountered in an unwinnable battle during the epilogue.
Final Fantasy XVI
The Black Shield Captain (simply Captain in the Japanese localization) appears as an enemy encountered at Bewit Bridge in Rosaria during the main scenario quest Black or White.

The Captain appears as a boss encountered in the Timber Tracks. It can later be encountered as a normal enemy in the Zoldaad Castle Grounds. It additionally appears during the story events "The Empire of Light and Dark" and "Shadow of the Empire."
The Captain from Final Fantasy II appears as an enemy and boss during the crossover events "The Dreadnought" and "The Cyclone," while the Captain from Final Fantasy IV appears during the event "Fabul Castle Guard."

Captain and chief officer are overlapping terms, formal or informal, for the commander of a military unit, the commander of a ship, airplane, spacecraft, or other vessel, or the commander of a port, fire department or police department, election precinct, etc. Captain is a military rank in armies, navies, coast guards, etc., typically at the level of an officer commanding a company of infantry, a ship, or a battery of artillery, or similar distinct unit.
