Etymology

Bandercoeurl is a portmanteau of "bandersnatch" and "coeurl." Bandersnatch is a creature mentioned twice by the late author Lewis Carroll; in the poem "Jabberwocky" in the Alice novel Through The Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, and also in the stand-alone poem The Hunting of the Snark (An Agony in 8 Fits). The coeurl is a fictional alien race created by science-fiction writer A. E. van Vogt. Coeurls also appear in other fantastical environments, such as in Dungeons & Dragons (as "Displacer Beasts"). Coeurls are generally described to be feline with longer forelimbs and tentacles.
