The Kirin appears a boss encountered as the last challenge at the end of the first Lunarian's Challenge Dungeon.
Final Fantasy VI
The Kirin appears as an esper who can be used as a magicite. Its summon ability, Holy Aura, costs 18 MP to cast, and casts Regen on the entire player party. It teaches Cure (x5), Cura (x1), Regen (x3), Poisona (x4), and Libra (x5).
Final Fantasy XI
The Kirin appears as a notorious monster manticore encountered deep within the Shrine of Ru'Avitau. It is the master of the Shijin, and in order to battle it players must obtain seals from defeating all four Shijin. The Qilin is a similar creature encountered during the Voidwatch quest "Skyward Ho, Voidwatcher!" Defeating them grants the Kirin Captivator and Qilin Contravener titles respectively.

A Legend for a Legend. The quest can be obtained by collecting all horse mounts from A Realm Reborn's Extreme-difficulty trials. The auspice Koryu appears to be a kirin.

Etymology
Kirin is the Japanese and Korean name for the Qilin, which is a mythical hooved Chinese chimerical creature known throughout various East Asian cultures, and is said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a wise sage or an illustrious ruler.
