The Mermaid (マーメイド, Māmeido?) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in the original Final Fantasy. It typically features the upper body of a female humanoid with the lower body of a fish.

Mermaids appear as a peaceful race that inhabit the Sunken Shrine, as well as the Lifespring Grotto in the Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary releases. Their existence is threatened when the Kraken takes over the Sunken Shrine and corrupts the Water Crystal, with it being stated that if the crystal isn't restored the mermaids would eventually dissolve into sea foam and die.

The Mermaid appears as an enemy encountered in the outer sea of the Floating Continent.

The Mermaid appears as a water-elemental eidolon obtainable by Aemo. It could teach the Silence ability, and can use Mermaid Harp when summoned, restoring up to 20% of the party's MP.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
The Mermaid appears as a boss encountered in the Shipwreck. It also appears during the events "The Misty Bamboo Forest" and "Priestess of the Crystalline Waters".

A mermaid is a legendary aquatic creature with the upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish. Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide, including the Near East, Europe, Africa and Asia.
