Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail

During the Rite of Succession, Wuk Lamat's party traveled to Wachunpelo in Urqopacha. They are first met by Mablu, who claims not to know who the chosen elector is. Mablu tells the party to stay at a safe distance from the prized alpacas or they would spit on them, she said that this had happened to a visiting buyer not long ago and Tobli was angry with her for not warning them. When Wuk Lamat asked about Tobli, Mablu said that he likes to mingle with the ranch hands and keep an eye on everything. Once discovered, Tobli confirmed his identity as one of the Rite of Succession electors and that finding him was part of the test. Meanwhile Zoraal Ja and Sareel Ja arrived in Wachunpelo, and Zoraal Ja manages to quickly discover Tobli's identity just by observing his reaction. With both candidates ready, Tobli explains the next part of the test, capturing a wild alpaca in the valley.[1]

Tobli explained that they use a proper saddle with a relaxing scent for the task, but as they were a clan of merchants, Wuk Lamat would have to find a saddler and make an offer to get one. And to get the amount needed to buy one, Mablu was given permission to help Wuk Lamat negotiate with the pelupelu. Mablu suggested trading the alpaca wool with Havli, the saddler, and even though they knew he wouldn't agree, at least they would know how much he would charge. Wuk Lamat tried to negotiate an alpaca wool for a saddle to catch alpacas with Havli. Upon hearing the proposal, Havli said that the wool wouldn't cover the cost of a single buckle and that he would have to offer something of equivalent value. When asked what he would like, Havli negotiated for a jug of good quality Mezcal, as he likes to have a cup while inspecting the finished work. Shortly after making the offer, Havli hears Mablu calling Wuk Lamat “Third Promise” and changed the negotiation, now asking for a jar of premium mezcal, aged for at least three years. Havli explained that he doubled the price because he was supporting Zoraal Ja in the rite of succession, since he was going to war and that would increase the price of the saddles.[2]

Mablu suggested Wuk Lamat seeking allies who valued alpaca wool and were willing to trade generously, emphasizing the importance of connections. Wuk Lamat immediately thought of Bol Noq', recalling his support and his intention to buy wool. Bol Noq' greeted them warmly and listened as they proposed a trade, he decided to invest in their effort and offered a finely crafted wool poncho.[2] Soon after, the poncho was exchanged for a hatchet when negotiating with a Mamool Ja. Since it was mate harvesting season, Mablu suggested they try negotiating with Miplu. Miplu, loyal to the Second Promise and uninterested in the hatchet, agreed only to a fair price, but agreed to include Wuk Lamat and Mablu's labor to harvest the crop to make up for the price difference. After finishing, Miplu reciprocates by exchanging the hatchet for a full bag of premium leaves.[3]

To prepare to negotiate with Gobli, the best Mezcal distiller, Mablu suggested Wuk Lamat and the Warrior of Light to look for information that they could use in negotiations. After investigating, they discovered three gossips: a chef's aversion to strong spirits, Gobli's looming palace invitation, and the monster threat in the agave fields. When Gobli brusquely refused their sack of premium mate leaves, Mablu first lamented the chef's plight and that tea could be served to customers in place of mezcal, then hinted at Gobli's need to impress the court recommending Bol Noq' as a weaver to make garments for him to wear on the visit, and finally threatened to dispatch the creatures besieging Agave Jaws. Convinced by the combined value of alternative refreshments, proper court attire introductions, and a monster-clearing service, Gobli sealed the deal: he handed over a three-year-old jug of his finest mezcal in exchange.[4]

Once returning to Havli with the mezcal, Havli agreed to craft a taming saddle in exchange. They returned to the ranch, where Mablu coached Wuk Lamat in saddling an alpaca. Later Wuk Lamat ventured alone into the mist‑shrouded Valley of Oruncanca and returned having captured her own wild alpaca and completed the Feat of Gold.[5]

Krile asked Mablu and Tobli if they knew anything about her earring, and upon examining it, they said the earrings were the same as those that were popular in Yok Tural as a protective amulet for travelers. While Wuk Lamat continued his progress in the rite of succession, Mablu and Tobli investigated the origins of Krile's earring. After their investigations, they went to Tuliyollal to report their findings. Mablu said they located the old merchant who sold them, and the merchant had said that the design imitated an accessory worn by a foreign mage they had met at the market about twenty years ago. Krile theorized that the description of the "foreign mage" matched that of his grandfather, Galuf. Luckily, the market was in Yak T'el, the location where Wuk Lamat's party was going next during the rite of succession.[6]
