Hector, also known by his ring name Brute Bomber, is a character from Final Fantasy XIV, introduced in the expansion Dawntrail. He is the champion of the light-heavyweight division of the Ascension Arcadia Championship.
History
Brute Bomber's Arcadion introduction.
Hector used the soul of a Bomb King and was known for fighting dirty, causing many fighters to be carried into the infirmary. During the fight with the Warrior of Light, Hector appeared to use illegal substances yet still lost. This victory made the Warrior the new champion of the light-heavyweight division, with Yaana being amazed that a newcomer without a regulator was able become champion of the division.
During the coronation ceremony for the new champion, Hector interrupted the event by invading the stage. He claimed the Warrior's victory was a hoax, since they fought with seven others. Hector insisted they settle it one-on-one right there, and activated his feral soul. Hector charged at the Warrior of Light, but before he could hit them Hector was knocked out by a bolt of lightning of Eutrope.[3]
When Yaana and Neyuni arrived with the Warrior of Light, they warned Hector about the dangers of using feral souls. They found Hector surrounded by his kittens and Retsarra paying a visit. Retsarra revealed about their past and left to let Yaana talk to Hector. Neyuni's examination confirmed the worst—his soul already showed signs of psychonekrosis. Though Yaana urged him to retire before the disease worsened, Hector rejected their warnings in anger. Unknown to they, Retsarra had listened to the entire conversation, leaving quietly while Hector struggled to accept the truth.[4]
After the Warrior defeated Sugar Riot, Neyuni showed them and Yaana Hector attacking Ascension Arcadia scientist and demanding more feral souls. Metem tried to stop him by claiming he will be banned from Arcadion, but he just punched Metem in the face. He then grabbed the camera and addressed the Warrior to meet him in the demolition site on the eighth level, where he intended to destroy the Warrior. Metem then came to Yaana's gym and reprimanded her for telling Hector about psychonekrosis. Instead of believing them, he went to the president, who denied everything and instead urged Hector to do what he is now doing, all according to the president's script. The president also sanctioned a grudge match between the Warrior and Hector, now a chimeric beast named the Brute Abombinator, which the Warrior was forced to accept, and it was clear the president wanted to get rid of the Warrior. Metem arranged a transport for the Warrior and Yaana came along, feeling responsible for the situation.
After a grueling battle on a sky high construction site with the Warrior of Light, Hector seemingly succumbed to his injuries and psychonekrosis, which was accelerated drastically from having taken on multiple feral souls at once. The cameras watching the fight were shut off immediately after, with his body being retrieved by the championship organizers and his presumed death covered up as retirement.
In reality, Hector's death was faked by the President, who had him taken to the Arcadion's infirmary where his soul infusion was reversed and his psychonekrosis treated, having been provided with less potent souls to transform into the Brute Abombinator. To maintain the deception, Hector was confined to the infirmary. After watching the Warrior's live matches, he was inspired to come to their aid by defeating the president—who had transformed into the Lindwurm years ago—to extract his heart alongside the Warrior's previous opponents (except Eutrope who was in cold stasis). After the cure was administered and the fighters cured of their psychonekrosis, Hector expressed his gratitude to the Warrior for saving him and the others. During their crowning ceremony, Hector challenged the Warrior to a rematch, but Yaana intervened on their behalf, prompting Metem to authorize an impromptu exhibition match with Yaana emerging the victor.
Characteristics
Appearance
Hector is a tan-skinned Hyune with a short red hair. He is wearing black pants, boots, and a harness.
After fusing with the soul of a Bomb King, he becomes the Brute Bomber and grows in size, and becomes more muscular and his skin turns red. The facial features of a bomb are also shown in his chest: yellow eyes and wide mouth with sharp teeth.
After fusing with multiple feral souls at once, he becomes a chimeric beast called the Brute Abombinator with parts of multiple creatures. The visible parts of creatures include a Catoblepas, a Belladonna, and a Gargoyle, with his use of the Glower ability suggesting that he also consumed a Cyclops soul.
Personality
Hector, in professional wrestling terms, fits the role of a heel; a villainous antagonist who relies on dirty tricks and incurring the ire of the audience. He relies on brute strength and performing illegal moves such as an "asian mist"-like attack and drinking what is initially assumed to be a performance-enhancing compound in the middle of a fight, which Neyuni later revealed to be a prop to keep his image up with the audience.
He is devoted to his role as a heel, putting on a hypocritical act by accusing the Warrior of cheating, despite the fact that he apparently did the same. In reality, this was in the spirit of kayfabe, as he was dedicated to serving the president of the Ascension Arcadia Championship, alongside his long time friend Retsarra, who described him as a more timid soul and a cat lover before finding his calling in the Arcadion.
Hector is deeply loyal to the President, feeling indebted to him for introducing him to the Arcadion and granting him a life inside the ring. After being warned about psychonekrosis, Hector's loyalty was tested, causing him to confront his benefactor. Instead of believing the Warrior of Light and Yaana for their warnings over the disease, his loyalty to the President was bolstered after he was told to continue fighting in a sanctioned grudge match between him and the Warrior, even if it cost Hector his life, unknown to anyone that his death was intended to be faked and it was part of the "script" meant to villainize the President himself for introducing feral souls to the Arcadion. After his psychonekrosis was treated and his transformation reversed following his presumed death in the grudge match and watching the Warrior climb the Heavyweight rankings live, he was inspired to come to their aid and end the threat of psychonekrosis for good.

Etymology
In Greek mythology, Hector was a Trojan prince and one of the greatest warriors in the Trojan War. In Homer's Iliad, it is said that despite his opposition to war, Hector led the Trojans and their allies in the defense of Troy, killing countless Greek warriors. Hector died in a duel with the Greek hero Achilles, who sought revenge for the death of Patroclus. After the duel, Achilles desecrated Hector's body by dragging him behind his chariot for twelve days, until the gods asked Achilles to allow King Priam to retrieve his son's body.
