Description

Unfettered Fury is an ability for Tifa in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, provided by Crystal Gloves. It consumes one ATB charge to increase her chi and imbue her attacks with magic-based damage. Increasing her chi under Unfettered Fury will grant two techniques: Omniflurry and Rage and Fall. As such, it is a magic-based equivalent of Unbridled Strength.

Using Unbridled Strength will cause Tifa to briefly enter a battle stance pose, engulfing herself in energy.

Mechanics

Unfettered Fury, as with Unbridled Strength, consumes an ATB charge and increases Tifa's chi level for a duration, indicated by the gauge appearing over the unique ability name. This will both grant her a new unique ability, and increase the number of attacks in Tifa's regular combo. For Unfettered Fury, Tifa has a new combo of attacks, which culminate in a miniature Chi Trap being launched at the end.

Unfettered Fury can be used interchangeably with Unbridled Strength. For example, if Tifa uses Unbridled Strength to boost her chi level to 2, Unfettered Fury can then be used to boost it to chi level 3, replacing her attacks with its effects.

Use

Unfettered Fury is a strong situational alternative to Unbridled Strength in a number of scenarios. Because it imbues her attacks with magic damage, it will cause her regular attacks to be based on her Magic Attack stat instead of her Attack Power. A simple reason to use this is against enemies who resist physical damage, as Unfettered Fury will change Tifa's damage type and allow her to attack them, rather than relying on other party members.

The regular combos in Unfettered Fury can help stagger enemies more quickly. This includes the miniature Chi Trap launched at the end of her combo under Unfettered Fury. Doing this can be effective against enemies where the player hopes to deal the majority of damage while they are staggered.

With Unfettered Fury Tifa can quickly accumulate ATB charges in battle: by holding the attack button ( in PS5 by default), Tifa punches and follows up with an uppercut; when the latter hit lands, the player can cancel the animation by pressing the attack button again. Repeating this pattern the player can fill Tifa's ATB bar at super speed.

Potentially, Unfettered Fury can unlock a new playstyle for Tifa based on magic damage and spellcasting. By equipping Tifa's crystal gloves or Sylph Gloves, or simply any materia that rely on magic damage, players can unlock her ability to build ATB gauges rapidly and to boost stagger damage to make her a strong battlemage. Though her MP typically makes her a weaker spellcaster than other party members, and her limit breaks are all based on physical damage, this is nonetheless a very viable and powerful playstyle for her.
