Whenever a compatible summon was active, the Egi Assault command would change to reflect the summon's associated action. For example, while Emerald Carbuncle was active, Egi Assault would change to Assault I: Downburst, which when used commanded the Carbuncle to execute Downburst.
Egi Assault had two recast timers, as its charges had a 30 second timer while also being on the global cooldown (GCD). The 30 second recharge timer could not be shortened by any means.
There was a slight delay between using Egi Assault and the summon executing the command. If Egi Assault was used too close to the summoning of Demi-Bahamut or Demi-Phoenix, these summons could potentially replace the Egi before the Assault was executed.
Use
Egi Assault was an instant cast spell that activated the global cooldown, and could be used to weave abilities that were off the global cooldown, such as
Fester, in between spell casts. In addition, once Summoners reached level 62 damaging Egi Assaults would generate stacks of
Further Ruin, allowing the Summoner to cast the powerful
Ruin IV.
When commanded with Egi Assault, Emerald Carbuncle and Garuda-Egi would respectively execute Downburst and Aerial Slash, ranged area of effect attacks, while Ifrit-Egi would use Crimson Cyclone, a powerful single-target melee attack. Crimson Cyclone was the preferred Assault when facing a single target. When facing multiple enemies, Downburst or Aerial Slash should have been used instead, though their effectiveness varied—Downburst needed to hit three enemies to outdamage Crimson Cyclone, while Aerial Slash needed only two.
The most unique Egi Assaults were those of Topaz Carbuncle and Titan-Egi, who would respectively use Glittering Topaz and Earthen Armor. These statistically identical spells granted
Stone Wall to the Summoner, a barrier that absorbed damage totaling 30% of their maximum HP. The barrier was a powerful defensive option on a short cooldown, granting excellent survivability that could make these summons the safest options for soloing content, or learning and progressing new encounters. In the latter case, this durability complemented the Summoner's ability to support the party with
Resurrection. However, these were the only Egi Assaults that deal no damage, preventing them from generating Further Ruin and in general making these summons the worst DPS options available.

Etymology
Egi, meaning "I have done", "I have accomplished", "I have led", or "I have pursued (a course of action)", is the first-person singular perfect active indicative form of the Latin verb ago, which generally means "I act" or "I do".
