Are we absolutely certain that there is no alternative, diplomatic way to resolve this?
Yuan
Yuanchosaan is a joke unlockable character in Dissidia. Her battle style is described as Serendipitous Innovator – whatever she does is a fortunate discovery for her…and perhaps not so fortunate for the opponent. Yuan is fairly swift and a small miniscule target, allowing her to weave distractedly around the arena. Both her attack and defence are low, and she has a long recovery time when staggering.
Although she has relatively few attacks to choose from, all her Brave attacks chain to her HP ones, allowing her great unpredictability. Unlike other characters, however, there is a small gap before the chaining in which she can be blocked. Her attacks occasionally have random effects. She uses a jian in battle, and can equip swords, katanas, daggers and musical instruments. Her armour is limited to hats, bangles, hairpins, robes and clothing.
Chain attacks by immediately inputting the command for that attack after the first move. If an attack is not chained, it can be deflected using any method. Target must be within reach of chained attack for it to connect. To interrupt attacks:
- Brave to Brave → Dodge
- Brave to HP → Block
- HP to Brave → Attack
Reason for fighting
Yuan dislikes conflict, and thus was not altogether happy about landing in a place where everything is solved by conflict. Faced with no other choice, she has decided to use this as a learning experience, both for herself and the people she encounters. Is often distracted during batt- ooh, look! Isn’t that interesting?
Attacks
Brave Attacks
| Move | Type | Description |
| Thesis | Ground | A quick, short stab. Chains to Composition. Battle quote: "Clear, concise, eloquent." |
| Combinatorics | Ground | Three successive attacks. The damage dealt by the third attack is determined using where x is the damage dealt by the stronger attack divided by 10, and y is the damage of the weaker attack divided by 10. To avoid excessively large numbers, the number of digits of the last attack is capped to the number of digits in the first attack. Battle quote: "N C K!" |
| Rutherford-Bohr | Aerial | Several spheres appear and orbit around the target, before forming one large sphere that collapses on the opponent. Occasionally produces a box which traps the opponent, having a 50% chance of halving the opponent's Brave, and a 50% chance of nothing happening. Battle quote: "Huh? That's not an atomic model..." |
| Verb Conjugation | Ground | A band of shifting words appears and rotates around opponent, dealing constant, small, Brave damage. Slight stagger effect when first inflicted. Chains to Combinatorics. Battle quote: "Present, perfect past, imperfect past..." |
| Apoptosis | Aerial | Sends out two small orbs which explode on impact. Chaining teleports Yuan to the second orb's location. Battle quote: "The natural order" |
| Composition | Ground/Aerial | Four copies of Yuan appear and form a rectangle around the opponent. After a delay, they quickly converge onto a point in the centre of the figure. Battle quote: "Aesthetics." |
HP Attacks
| Move | Type | Description |
| Mathematical Elegance | Ground/Aerial | Glowing e, i, π, -1 and 0 appear and attack successively, before resolving into and exploding. If close to the explosion, target (and Yuan herself, if she is too close) suffers Wall Rush. Battle quote: "True beauty." |
| Deconstruction | Ground | A flurry of combined magic and physical attacks from each side. Swift, but deals little Brave damage. When attack ends, opponent loses HP but gains a 10% increase of their Brave. Battle quotes: "I reduce you to your elements," and "You have been reconstituted." |
| Empiricism | Aerial | Randomly uses either the opponent's last HP attack, Yuan's most commonly used HP attack, or an effect generated by the Stage itself. Battle quote: "All this experience goes to building knowledge." |
| Monomyth | Ground | Opponent is drawn towards Yuan, is hit by either a physical or magical attack, then repelled by a blast that deals HP damage. Wall Rush effect. Battle quote: "Find your story." |
| Philology | Aerial | A stream of words is fired, each dealing a small amount of damage. When all words surround the enemy, they collapse into one shining character/letter which explodes. The words or phrases are translations of each other. Battle quote: "Elements binding languages together." |
EX Mode and EX Burst
I am gripped by the passion of discovery!
Yuan
Yuan’s EX Mode, Scientia et Compassio, gives her the passive abilities Regen and Tenacious Discoverer. The latter allows her HP attacks to chain to any of her Brave ones, leading to devastating combos. She also gains the active ability Medic, activated using R +
, which allows her to sacrifice Brave Points to regain HP (in a 1:1 ratio). The effect continues as long as the buttons are depressed. If the player presses L +
, the HP will instead be given to the opponent. Hey, her EX Mode doesn’t have “et Compassio” for nothing.
Her EX Burst is Intellectual Fervour, and requires the player to answer four multiple choice questions on mathematics, the arts, linguistics or science within a certain amount of time, each correct answer corresponding to a hit. If the player correctly answers all questions, Yuan will perform Quod Erat Demonstrandum, uniting the four subjects together to deal five more blows to the target. If the player answers a question incorrectly, Yuan will instead use (depending on the last question answered correctly) the Mathematician, Artist, Linguist or Scientist’s Apology.
Exclusive Weapons
| Move | Level | Description |

| Moonlight Sonata | 92 | A jian that shines like moonlight on water. Attack +60, HP +200. Brave + 30%, Regen + 20% (duration and % healed) |
