The Winterers is an organization introduced in Final Fantasy XIV, first mentioned in Dawntrail.

Winterers are a group of people gathered by Halmarut across the reflections of the Source, brought together with a common aspiration: will to doom entire worlds if it means survival. This aspiration is the organization's method to preemptively rejoin the reflections to the Source before the apocalyptic event, Solstice, occurs.

According to Calyx, the Winterers may have a broadly shared goal of survival, but its members do not all agree with, or even like, each other.

Members

• Halmarut: an Ascian, who was once part of the Convocation of Fourteen, known as the Sower.
• Calyx: an Endless originating from the Ninth. He founded the scientific collective Preservation, responsible for the kingdom of Alexandria to survive the Storm Surge. He sought to erase death through the creation of Endless. After he was defeated, his digitized memories were placed into a mu doll.

Etymology

"Winterer" could refer to someone spending only the winter in a place. The expansion Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold will take place in an ice setting. However, "wintering" also means withdrawing from social life to rejuvenate, something akin to "hibernating", waiting the either literal or metaphorical winter, to pass.
