The Dustwatch is a peacekeeping force in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. They were formed by Koana supporters to deal with growing lawlessness in Shaaloani.

History

Previously, the peoples of Shaaloani rarely agreed on matters, and all disputes were settled through duels. The old law stated that whoever lost the duel would assume responsibility as the losing party in the dispute. However, since most preferred not to risk their lives, this indirectly encouraged the involved parties to seek peaceful resolutions. The Dustwatch was established by supporters of Koana, who favored peace being enforced through the formal rule of law. Thus, if matters ever spiraled out of control, the Dustwatch would be compelled to intervene.[1]

While Wihuwte served as deputy chief of the Dustwatch, he secretly operated in the shadows as "the Vulture", leading a band of raiders. He exploited the old law and fear to seize control of the vigilante group known as the Daybreakers, turning them into his henchmen. Wihuwte leveraged his position within the Dustwatch to cover up their crimes and imprison anyone who proved inconvenient to his plans. He jailed two of the original founders, Kwikana and Liwine, after they attempted to challenge him to a duel. Eventually, he was exposed by Zekowa, the last of the original Daybreakers founders. with the help of the Warrior of Light and Erenville. Kemakka ordered Wihuwte's arrest and commanded that Kwikana and Liwine be released.

When the dome appeared in Yyasulani, followed by an army that emerged from it to attack Tuliyollal. The floating ships scared everyone in Shaaloani. Dustwatch spread out to try to respond to reports from everywhere.[2]
