Pixel Remaster or pixel remaster

Hi, I was browsing Permanently missable content and I saw the bot did an edit which forced every instance of Pixel Remaster to pixel remaster, getting rid of the italics and the capitals.

While Square-Enix themselves is inconsistent (this page flips between capitalized and lowercase multiple times: https://www.square-enix-games.com/en_GB/news/final-fantasy-pixel-remaster-starter-tips), I at least think the italics should have been kept, as differentiating which version is being spoken about is a little easier if the version has some effect to show it as a title. Being both normal and full lowercase has pixel remaster blend into the text and be easily missed (ironic), so a situation where something is missable in PR but not other versions or vice-versa read a little more confusingly.

This is my subjective opinion, I do just want some clarity so that I follow the wiki's standards though as I do a lot of playing on 1-6 specifically and have been wanting to record all differences and nuances between their various versions. TL;DR, how should pixel remaster be written across the wiki? SpeedBurner (talk) 23:59, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for reaching out! When looking at the usage of "Pixel Remaster" vs. "pixel remaster", Square Enix are mostly consistent... mostly. Their official press releases and the Final Fantasy portal site mostly render it as "FINAL FANTASY pixel remaster series", only rarely rendering it as "FINAL FANTASY Pixel Remaster" (mostly in title case where every first letter is capitalised, or as the name of the physical boxed copy of the game "Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster -FF35th Anniversary Edition-"), and never with the individual games as a title. Due to this we chose to keep the title of the series in lower case. However, as you point out it is not 100% consistent, with the SE blog occasionally capitalising it. In the end it was a judgement call taken to match the most common official SE usage. As for the italics, it's hard to tell how it's meant to be taken, as normally the parts that would be italics in Square Enix titles are rendered in ALL CAPS, with some exceptions. An argument could be made, that, as a series title, it could be italicised, as we do with the full series itself, but as Square Enix mostly used the title "pixel remaster series" mostly as a descriptor, I kept it uninitialised.
Of course this can all be discussed until a consensus is reached. If you wish to propose a move or a rename, you can bring it up in the pixel remaster talk page, or if you wish, I could move this discussion there. For the moment, to address the TL;DR, pixel remaster is to be written as a descriptor. E.g. "in the pixel remaster this doesn't happen", "this was changed in the pixel remaster version", "Final Fantasy VI pixel remaster features this". — Zero-ELEC (talk) 04:55, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
