Enemy Intel
Venomantis is an enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". Three of them are encountered in the Sector 5 Slums during the "Paying Respects" quest in Chapter 8, "Budding Bodyguard". They can also later be fought in the Corneo Colosseum in Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope". Two can also be fought at the Talagger factory area in the Sector 7 Slums during "Wutai's Finest" as part of "Episode INTERmission"; the player comes here during "The Happy Turtle Ad Campaign" discovery quest.
Venomantis is a stronger variant of the grashtrike, is weak to
Ice, and inflicts the party with status ailments.

Battle
A group of venomantises is fought as part of the "Paying Respects" odd job. They are durable enemies that have powerful melee attacks if not guarded against, and ranged attacks that can inflict
Poison with normal attacks or
Sleep with their ranged Torpid Sting attack. They are weak to Ice and may inflict
Slow with their webs; getting away from the web will get rid of the slow status soon enough.
Strategy
Blizzard and Blizzara are effective, especially with Arcane Ward, and the venomantises' Torpid Sting should be rolled to dodge as a priority. If sleep is induced, the player should switch to an active character. Pairing
Elemental Materia with
Ice Materia on Cloud empowers his physical attacks. Equipping
First Strike Materia and/or Whistlewind Scarf, and
Magnify Materia and ice materia on Aerith lets her start the battle with a magnified ice spell. Cloud can use Triple Slash and stay in Punisher Mode to counter the venomantises' attacks to also charge ATB. If the party gets poisoned, Chakra removes it in lieu of restoring health.
Hard Mode
Equipping star pendants is crucial to resist poison, as the rest of the venomantises' attacks will deal significant damage, and poison prevents
Regen from working to heal through them. Aerith can cast Blizzaga paired with
MP Absorption Materia or
HP Absorption Materia, though it may not be possible to use Arcane Ward with how frequently the venomantis uses sleep. Cloud can use Triple Slash, and if Aerith's spells stagger one venomantis, Infinity's End can finish them off; equipping
ATB Boost Materia can help Cloud top up his ATB to 2 to become ready for Infinity's End.
Completing the quest grants Aerith the Telluric Scriptures Vol. VIII.
Episode INTERmission
Two venomantises are faced in the Talagger factory in Sector 7 Slums. Yuffie should use Ice Ninjutsu, throw her weapon, and then attack with ranged ninjutsu while her weapon is thrown to deal severe ice damage. When her ATB is filled again, she can unleash Art of War and Windstorm back-to-back as Art of War empowers Yuffie's next ability. If Yuffie gets poisoned, she can use Chakra or Antidote to heal it.

Etymology
Venomantis is a portmanteau of "venom" and "mantis". Mantises is an order of insects that contains over 2,400 species and about 430 genera in 15 families worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. Most are in the family Mantidae. A common name, often applied to any species in the order, is "praying mantis" due to the typical "prayer-like" posture with folded fore-limbs, although the eggcorn "preying mantis" is sometimes used in reference to their predatory habits. In Europe and other regions, however, the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa.
