The Pop Fry is an enemy from Final Fantasy X-2 that can be fought in Bikanel and Cloisters 44–46 of the Via Infinito. It reuses the model of the Oblitzerator boss from Final Fantasy X.

Stats

Battle

On its turn, the Pop Fry has a 1/3 chance each of using Benchwarmer, Bite the Bullet, or Night Game, which inflict Sleep, Silence, or Darkness, respectively. It will retaliate with Triple Play! when hit with any Water-elemental magic spell, which hits random characters 10 times and erases 3/16 of maximum HP with each hit. Against L-sized creatures (e.g. the Elder Zurvan), this can lead to a Game Over if the creature does not have the Invincible or Auto-Life status effects.

As with other machina-type enemies, the Pop Fry absorbs Lightning but is weak to Water.

Its rare drop and rare steal, the Petrify Grenade, is extremely useful for captured creatures, as 10 units of this item can be consumed to teach the powerful ability Hurt.

Strategy

The Pop Fry is not a dangerous enemy, and can be dispatched of quickly with normal and Water-based attacks, such as Water and Liquid Steel. However, Water-elemental spells like Waterga should be used with caution as the Pop Fry will retaliate with the deadly Triple Play! ability.

Creature Creator

Pop Fry is available for capture in Chapter 3 with a Trap pod L placed in Bikanel. It comes into the party already having learned Ailment Def. and Total Limit Break. Note that it will become unavailable for capture once the player discovers the Cactuar Hollow in Chapter 5.

Despite the Cat Nip accessory being rebalanced to include an automatic Berserk and Slow effect in the HD Remaster, Cat Nip can be used with the Pop Fry, allowing it to use its Triple Play! ability to easily inflict 99,990 damage (ten hits of 9,999 damage) with each use of the ability when in critical health. This strategy can also be used with the Machina Striker, which also has the Triple Play! ability.

Upon completion of the Pop Fry's fiend tale, the player has to play a minigame.

Etymology

Being akin to a pitching machine, this machina, like the Oblitzerator before it, makes references to sports including baseball.
