Memory Game in the PlayStation version.

Memory Game in the PlayStation version.

The Memory Game, also named Concentration,[1] is a secret minigame found in almost all versions of Final Fantasy II, excluding the Famicom and Pixel Remaster versions of the game. It is a hidden minigame in vein of 15 Puzzle for the original Final Fantasy, and it requires a certain sequence to play:

Gameplay

There are eight pairs, making a total of sixteen cards, which are arranged on a 4x4 grid. Each pair depicts a party member. Once all pairs are matched, the party is rewarded with gil and one or two items. The prizes and gil rewarded are determined by how many misses the player makes during the game; having zero misses yields the highest reward, while 10 or more misses yield the lowest reward. If a character has upgraded their Toad spell to level 16, the cards depict the party members in their Toad form. Higher rewards are given for completing a game with Toad panels.

If the player completes a concentration puzzle and repeatedly restarts and immediately exits the game 31 times (without leaving the game screen), they can access the 32nd layout, which is always identical to the first. As such, this decreases the likelihood of mistakes if the player has memorized the placement of every pair in the first challenge.

Prizes

Final Fantasy Origins rewards. The second set of rewards are for beating the record time.

For the Frog version, rewards are significantly more powerful.

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls and Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary rewards.

For the Frog version, the rewards are as follows:

Cheating the game

It is possible to cheat the game as it follows a 32-game rotation. By making a note on where each character is located on the first game, then after that game start the next 31 games but cancel them, the game afterwards should be the same as the first game.
