Susanoo-no-Mikoto is the Shinto god of the sea and storms. He is the brother of Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, the kami of the sun and the kami of the moon, respectively. All three were born from Izanagi, the "father of all kami" in Shinto. Though a god of storms, Susanoo is also known as a god of swords and swordsmanship, famous for his deed of slaying the eight-headed snake dragon Yamata no Orochi, and discovering the sword, Ama no Murakumo, in its tail, which he offered as apology and offering to return to the heavens. Primarily Susanoo wielded the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi (lit. Sword of Ten Grasps), the sword of his father Izanagi.
