finalfantasy

A brilliantly colored cloth with luxuriant weight.
Range: 2

Description in The Ivalice Chronicles

The damask cloth, also known as Persia on the PlayStation, is the weakest cloth in Final Fantasy Tactics, equippable by the female-exclusive dancer, as well as the onion knight in The War of the Lions version. Cloths have especially high rate of Parry.

Obtained

The player can buy the damask cloth for 7,000 gil in trading port outfitters after the events at the Royal City of Lesalia in chapter 3, "The Valiant". Trade ports are Dorter, Warjilis, and Sal Ghidos.

A damask cloth can also be found as a rare item through the chemist's Treasure Hunter movement ability in Yuguewood (5,2 on a panel height of 3).

Mechanics

Damask cloth deals damage based on the following formula when used with the Attack command:

Damask cloth has a 50% chance to activate with Parry when attacked from the front or sides.

Damask cloth is incompatible with the samurai's Doublehand and the ninja's Dual Wield and Throw.

Cloths have a melee range of 2 tiles, same as polearms and poles. They have a reach of 3 tiles vertically, up and down.

Use

Damask cloth is especially good for parrying, though Parry falls short of the samurai's Shirahadori. Cloths can only be equipped to dancers, who cannot parry while dancing. Their two-tile range can come to use to attack enemies with shorter range melee weapons, meaning they cannot counterattack the cloth-wielder. Cloths' damage is calculated from both the wielder's physical and magick attack, so the player can raise either stat to do more damage with the damask cloth.

Etymology

Damask is a woven, reversible patterned fabric.

The Japanese name alludes to Persian carpet.
