Chocobo Search is an Odd Job in Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope", in Final Fantasy VII Remake. While Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, and Barret Wallace search for a way to the Shinra Building, they encounter a stablehand who has heard of Cloud's exploits from Chocobo Sam. The stablehand asks them to find three runaway chocobos for him.

Completing the quest unlocks various fast-travel locations for Sam's Delivery Service and makes them free, making travel around Midgar easier. After completing it once, the fast-travel locations will still be free upon returning to the chapter in Chapter Select.

Walkthrough

After speaking to the stablehand in the Sector 5 Slums, the player must find three chocobos. The marker leads towards Chocobo Sam in Wall Market, though this is not where the chocobos are located. After a chocobo is found, a fast-travel point can be used to reach that location. Many of the chocobos are located in areas that are visited for other quests, meaning that accepting multiple sidequests at once can be efficient.

The chocobos can be found in the following locations:

• Near the Sector 5 slums church. From the Sector 5 Slums Station, head north and keep west towards Sanctuary Way, then head through the gap in the fence and head north along Sanctuary Way. The chocobo is found after a warehouse and just before the church. Interacting with it will open a fast-travel point to the Sector 5 slums church.
• The northeast area of Nuts 'n' Bolts Hills in the Sector 5 Slums. After heading north from the Sector 5 Center District, head east to Nuts 'n' Bolts Hills, and then further north through the path until the chocobo is found. Interact with it and a rust drake is fought. This enemy is weak to both ice and wind, but can fly and starts out immune to magic, so pairing Elemental Materia with Ice Materia or Wind Materia in one of Barret's gun-arms is effective. Its devastating Gravity attack can be interrupted by doing enough damage before it finishes casting. After defeating it, feed Gysahl greens to the chocobo, granting a fast travel point to the Steel Mountain.
• The Collapsed Expressway has a chocobo, located at the south end of the Old Bypass. After talking to it, three trypapolises are fought. These enemies resist physical damage, can clone themselves if their attacks are interrupted while dancing, and stagger does not last long against them. Defeat the clones if they appear, and focus on using powerful character abilities or spells that can pressure them. Though they are durable, their attacks are not too deadly. Return to the chocobo after defeating it to open fast travel to the Collapsed Expressway.

Once all have been found, check in with Chocobo Sam to complete the quest, earning a lifetime pass for Sam's Delivery Service.

Hard mode tips

Against the rust drake, Barret should Focused Shot from a distance at two ATB bars to build its stagger gauge, while Cloud and Tifa use normal attacks. Guard against its attacks until it is staggered, then lay into it with character abilities. Defeating it will earn Barret the Sharpshooter's Companion Vol. XI.

Against trypapolises, equipping Elemental Materia with Wind Materia on armor is a great MP-efficient alternative to relying on healing spells, as elemental materia will allow the trypapolises' wind spells to be absorbed. Tifa can use Starshower against them to deal heavy damage while avoiding their Screeches, and Barret can stay at a distance and use Maximum Fury while Cloud uses Triple Slash. As with before, though trypapolises are durable, they do not deal heavy damage on their own. Defeating them will earn Tifa the Way of the Fist Vol. XI.
