Beavers within the Snow Cave from Final Fantasy II (20th anniversary).

Guy speak beaver.

Beavers (ビーバー, Bībā?) are a recurring species in the Final Fantasy series. While they can only speak in growls and chitters, some characters, such as Guy, are able to understand them.

Appearances

Final Fantasy

Beavers only appear in the Game Boy Advance version, Dawn of Souls, and all subsequent releases excluding the Pixel Remaster release. They are located in one of the sub-basements of the bonus dungeon Whisperwind Cove, where a side mission involves a dwarf asking Warriors of Light to help him retrieve his lost giant beavers by speaking to them and placing them in different rooms.

Final Fantasy II

Beaver FFII PSP

The Beavers make their first series appearance in the original NES version as a race that lives deep within the Snow Cave. Guy is able to speak to them, and asks one of them about the Goddess's Bell, which he is told is in a nearby room guarded by a vicious Adamantoise.

Final Fantasy XIV

Beavers make an appearance in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. Despite their apparent harmlessness, they prey upon the pixies of Il Mheg and possess an ability to turn pixies into more beavers. The Warrior of Light is able to speak to them, seemingly without the aid of the Echo, through unexplained circumstances. Pairs of these beavers later manage to inexplicably wind up in Old Sharlayan and Tuliyollal; whether or not it is the same pair each time is left unclear. The origins of beavers are seemingly hinted at in Elpis, but ultimately without explanation. Another beaver makes a cameo appearance in Shaaloani during the Dawntrail Hildibrand Manderville questline, interacting with the eponymous detective with no apparent harm done to him.

Beaver-themed cosmetics can be obtained throughout the game. The giant beaver minion can be traded with an NPC beaver in Il Mheg after completing the sidequest And Then There Were None And Then There Were None with a Dancing Wing obtained from The Dancing Plague (Extreme) The Dancing Plague (Extreme). A sin eater-themed beaver called the sin beaver can be obtained by trading 25 illuminated oils obtainable from Pilgrim's Traverse and associated Challenge Log entries with Ose Wyd. Giant beaver burger sets can be craved by culinarians level 80 and above and placed as housing furnishing, while tabletop furnishing called the stuffed giant beaver can be obtained via item codes included with the giant beaver plush toy.
